Shubman Gill's Remarkable Achievement

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 17: Indian cricket captain Shubman Gill has reached a significant milestone by scoring 7,000 runs in international cricket.

This achievement came during the second ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow, where Gill showcased an impressive performance, scoring 154 runs off 110 balls despite battling heat and cramps. His innings included 22 boundaries and two sixes, resulting in a strike rate of 140.00.

Over the course of 140 matches and 173 innings, Gill has accumulated 7,029 runs, maintaining an average of 46.24 and a strike rate of 81.87. His record includes 21 centuries and 29 fifties, with a personal best of 269 runs.

In Test matches, he has scored 2,969 runs at an average of 44.37, featuring 11 centuries and eight fifties across 74 innings, with his highest score also being 269. In ODIs, he has excelled with 3,191 runs in 63 matches, averaging 59.09, including nine centuries and 18 fifties, with a top score of 208. In T20Is, Gill has amassed 869 runs in 36 matches, averaging 28.03, with a strike rate of 138.59, including one century and three fifties.

His 150 runs came off just 108 balls, marking the third-fastest time for an Indian to reach this milestone, following Ishan Kishan's 103 balls against Bangladesh in 2022 and Virat Kohli's 106 balls against Sri Lanka in 2023.

Gill and Ishan Kishan (who scored 125 runs off 79 balls, hitting 14 fours and seven sixes) formed a formidable partnership, adding 224 runs for the third wicket. This partnership ranks as the third-best for India in this category, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid's 237-run partnership against Kenya in 1999.

Both Gill and Kishan reached their centuries in under 80 balls, marking the first time two Indian players have achieved this feat in the same ODI, and only the eighth instance overall for any team.

Gill's century is also notable as the fourth-fastest by an Indian captain in ODIs, with Rohit Sharma holding the record for the fastest century at 63 balls against Afghanistan during the 2023 World Cup.

In the match, Afghanistan chose to field first, but centuries from Gill and Kishan propelled India to a total of 402 all out in 49.5 overs.

Nangeyaliya Kharoti (4/76) and Rashid Khan (3/48) were the standout bowlers for Afghanistan.

Afghanistan now faces the challenge of chasing down 403 runs to equalize the series.
