Shreyas Iyer's Sister Celebrates His New Role as T20I Captain
Shreyas Iyer Takes the Helm as T20I Captain
Shresta Iyer, sister of cricketer Shreyas Iyer, recently shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, celebrating her brother's appointment as the captain of the Indian T20I team. Shreyas has made a remarkable return to the squad, stepping in for Suryakumar Yadav, who was removed from the captaincy following a series of disappointing performances despite leading India to victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
In her post, Shresta emphasized the challenges Shreyas has overcome, asserting that his new role is a result of his hard work rather than a mere gift. She highlighted his resilience through multiple injuries and his unwavering positive attitude. "Where do I even begin? What do I say about your journey... from being a boy who simply loved cricket to becoming the Captain of Team India? Your journey has been truly extraordinary and incredibly inspiring," she wrote.
Shresta acknowledged the sacrifices and struggles that have shaped Shreyas's career, noting that many are unaware of the hardships he faced. She praised his ability to maintain a smile even during tough times, saying, "You carried your pain with grace and your dreams with courage. You are standing here today not because someone handed this to you, but because you earned every bit of it. Through hard work, determination, and an unshakable belief in yourself."
She expressed her belief that this is just the beginning of a successful chapter for Shreyas, stating, "You did it, Shreyas. I cannot put into words how proud I am of you. Your positivity and passion inspire me every single day. Today, I am not just a proud sister—I am in awe of the person you have become." Shresta concluded her message by affirming that Shreyas's journey is a testament to his strength and resilience, and that the nation celebrates his achievements.
Shreyas Iyer made his international debut in 2017 and was appointed vice-captain of the ODI team last year. Although he hasn't played a T20I since December 2023, he served as vice-captain during a bilateral series against Australia, where Suryakumar led the team in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya.
