Shreyas Iyer Achieves 3,000 Runs in ODIs
In Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has marked a significant achievement by scoring 3,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs), making him the second fastest Indian to reach this milestone.
Iyer accomplished this feat during the second ODI against Afghanistan, where he scored 26 runs off 24 balls, including one four and one six, boasting a strike rate exceeding 108.
Over the course of 78 ODIs and 72 innings, he has accumulated a total of 3,015 runs, maintaining an impressive average of 45.68, which includes five centuries and 23 half-centuries.
The record for the fastest Indian to reach this milestone is held by Shubman Gill, who achieved it in just 62 innings, while Iyer shares the second spot with Shikhar Dhawan.
Despite this achievement, Iyer's performance this year has been less than stellar, with only 98 runs in five innings, averaging 19.60, and a top score of 49.
In the match, Afghanistan chose to bowl first, but India, led by centuries from captain Gill (154 runs off 110 balls, featuring 22 fours and two sixes) and Ishan Kishan (125 runs off 79 balls, with 14 fours and seven sixes), posted a formidable total of 402 all out in 49.5 overs.
Afghanistan's Nangeyaliya Kharoti (4/76) and Rashid Khan (3/48) were the standout bowlers for their team.
To level the series, Afghanistan must chase down a target of 403 runs.
