Shreyas Iyer on the Brink of 3,000 ODI Runs Ahead of Second ODI Against New Zealand
Shreyas Iyer Approaches Milestone Ahead of Crucial ODI
Rajkot (Gujarat) [India], January 13: Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer is just 34 runs shy of reaching 3,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) as he prepares for the second ODI against New Zealand, set to take place in Vadodara on Wednesday.
With India currently leading the series 1-0, New Zealand will be eager to level the score in Rajkot. In the first ODI, Iyer contributed significantly with a score of 49 runs off 47 balls, including four boundaries and a six, forming a crucial 77-run partnership with Virat Kohli while chasing a target of 301 runs.
Having played 74 ODIs and batted in 68 innings, Iyer has amassed 2,966 runs, boasting an impressive average of 47.83 and a strike rate exceeding 99. He has recorded five centuries and 23 fifties, with his highest score being an unbeaten 128.
If Iyer achieves this milestone in the upcoming match, he will become the fourth-fastest player to reach 3,000 ODI runs in terms of innings, equaling the record held by West Indies legend Viv Richards. Additionally, he would surpass Shikhar Dhawan as the fastest Indian to reach this landmark, as Dhawan accomplished it in 72 innings.
