Aichi-Nagoya [Japan], September 23: Indian cricketer Shreyanka Patil expressed her happiness at rejoining the national team after missing the Asia Cup due to an injury. She played a crucial role in securing the gold medal at the Asian Games.

Patil commended the bowlers for their remarkable performances, noting that achieving a total of over 200 runs instilled confidence and provided a solid foundation for defending their score.

In the women's T20 cricket final, India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 147 runs, marking their second consecutive gold medal at the Asian Games and their first gold of the current event.

"The girls performed exceptionally well in the Asia Cup. Although I couldn't participate, I am thrilled to be back for the Asian Games. Returning to play shortly after an injury is something I cherish, and I’m overjoyed that we clinched the gold medal," Patil stated.

She added, "Having over 200 runs on the board gives bowlers the assurance that they can deliver. Charini, Deepti, and all our bowlers have been outstanding throughout this tournament, and it’s gratifying to see everyone contribute to our success."

In a repeat of the gold-medal match from Hangzhou 2023, India successfully defended their title against Sri Lanka, who took home the silver medal for the second time in a row. Pakistan secured the bronze after defeating Bangladesh in the earlier playoff.

Deepti Sharma shone with the ball, achieving remarkable figures of 3/6, while Shafali Verma, Shree Charani, and Shreyanka Patil each took two wickets, showcasing a dominant bowling performance.

Brief scores: India Women 216/3 in 20 overs (Smriti Mandhana 79, Richa Ghosh 49 not out; Chamudi Praboda 1/34) defeated Sri Lanka 69/10 in 15.4 overs (Chamari Athapaththu 29; Deepti Sharma 3/6) by 147 runs.
