Barcelona [Spain], April 13: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, celebrated as one of the greatest athletes in history and the recipient of the 2023 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year award, has been appointed as a Laureus Ambassador, marking her latest contribution to the global sports community.
With an impressive tally of three Olympic gold medals and ten World Championship titles, Fraser-Pryce has inspired countless sports enthusiasts throughout her remarkable two-decade career. She holds the record for the most global titles won by any sprinter, and her recent triumph in the 100-meter event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships made her the oldest athlete to secure a global sprint title, achieved after becoming a mother in 2019.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Fraser-Pryce founded the Pocket Rocket Foundation, which offers academic scholarships and mentorship to Jamaican student athletes. Her commitment to leveraging sports for community transformation aligns perfectly with the Laureus mission, attracting numerous prominent athletes to join its cause.
Fraser-Pryce is set to attend the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid on April 20, where she will officially embrace her role as a Laureus Ambassador. This event will mark her return to the Laureus red carpet after receiving six nominations for the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award, including her win this year.
This year's nominees for the same award feature outstanding athletes from the 2025 World Athletics Championships, including Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who clinched gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay; Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who achieved the second-fastest 400m time in history; and Faith Kipyegon, who secured her fourth world title in the 1500m.
Expressing her excitement, Fraser-Pryce stated, “Laureus has been a significant part of my journey, and I’m thrilled to take this next step as a Global Ambassador, especially as I join the Laureus community in Madrid for the Laureus World Sports Awards. This moment signifies my ongoing commitment to the sport and to the athletes who follow. My experiences have equipped me with insights into the opportunities and challenges athletes face today, and I am eager to use that knowledge to uplift and empower the next generation.”
Sebastian Coe, a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, remarked, “Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the most influential and enduring athletes in modern sports. For nearly two decades, she has set remarkable standards on the track, showcasing not only her performance but also the grace and resilience she embodies. Her dedication to education and opportunities for youth, particularly in Jamaica, aligns closely with Laureus values. We are excited to welcome her as a Laureus Ambassador, and I am confident she will significantly contribute to our mission of enhancing young lives through the power of sport.”
Fraser-Pryce joins a distinguished group of Laureus Ambassadors, athletes who utilize their influence and passion to support Laureus Sport for Good. Since the 2025 Laureus World Sports Awards, notable figures such as Eileen Gu, Jude Bellingham, Simone Biles, and Thiago Alcantara have also become Laureus volunteer Ambassadors.
