Excitement Builds for FIFA World Cup Final

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala - On July 18, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina, emphasizing the strong support for Argentina among fans in Kerala.

Tharoor noted that the high-stakes match between these two football powerhouses could inspire young athletes in India to aspire for greater achievements on the international stage.

The final is set to take place at the New York New Jersey Stadium this Sunday (local time).

“I’m not a football expert... What I do know is that there are more Argentina supporters in Kerala than Spain fans. So, it’s clear where Kerala stands. I’ll be heading to Parliament in Delhi, hoping to steer clear of the excitement that will unfold here after the match. Regardless, it promises to be an extraordinary game featuring two highly successful teams. One unfortunate aspect for our local football enthusiasts is the absence of a national team to rally behind at this level. I sincerely hope that witnessing such elite football will motivate more young Indians to pursue careers as world-class footballers,” Tharoor shared with reporters.

Spain, the current European champions, are on the hunt for their first World Cup title since 2010, while Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, aims to secure consecutive championships.

Argentina, the defending champions, made a stunning comeback in the semifinals, defeating England 2-1 after trailing in the first half. Enzo Fernandez equalized, followed by Lautaro Martinez scoring the decisive goal in stoppage time, propelling Argentina into the final against Spain.

Spain reached the World Cup final for the first time since their 2010 victory, having defeated France 2-0 in a composed semifinal performance.
