Serena Williams Returns to Competitive Tennis

London [UK], June 10: Tennis icon Serena Williams made a remarkable return to the competitive scene at Queen's Club on Tuesday, nearly four years after her last professional match.

The 44-year-old American star accepted a wildcard entry to team up with Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko in the grasscourt WTA event, drawing considerable attention as she stepped back onto a London court.

Williams displayed her signature power and experience, partnering with Mboko to secure a victory against the third-seeded duo of Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe with a score of 7-6(2), 6-2.

Her performance was marked by the trademark aggression and competitive spirit that have defined her career, showcasing her enduring talent in the sport despite the lengthy hiatus.

"It was so much fun, it felt so natural playing with Vicky," Williams expressed on court. "I guess I’ve got nothing better to do; I’m tired of sitting at home. My kids are out of school this summer, so why not?"

The 23-time Grand Slam champion has received a wildcard entry into the women’s doubles at Queen’s and is set to partner with the promising Canadian player Victoria Mboko.

Williams last claimed a Grand Slam singles title at the 2017 Australian Open while she was in the early stages of her pregnancy.

Since then, she has reached four additional Grand Slam finals but has not been able to match Margaret Court’s record of 24 major singles titles. Her return from maternity leave saw her reach finals at Wimbledon and the US Open, but she was defeated in straight sets each time.
