Glasgow [Scotland], August 2: Indian triple jumper Selva Prabhu Thirumaran expressed his joy after securing a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, describing the moment as a source of pride and motivation for future endeavors.

In the men's triple jump event, Selva Prabhu earned bronze while his fellow countryman Praveen Chithravel took home the silver, marking a remarkable double podium finish for India on Saturday.

Reflecting on his success, Selva acknowledged the unwavering support from his coaches, family, and support staff throughout his athletic journey.

"Winning this bronze medal for India fills me with happiness. Each season brings valuable lessons, and this moment reinforces the importance of hard work. I am grateful to my coaches, family, and everyone who has supported me, especially the team at the Inspire Institute of Sport. This is a proud achievement, but it also motivates me to return stronger and strive for more," Selva stated, as reported by Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS).

Selva achieved a best jump of 16.52m, showcasing consistent improvement throughout the competition to secure his medal.

In an interview after his victory, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran shared, "I feel immense pride for myself and my parents. This has been their dream since the beginning. They always wished for me to represent India. I’m thrilled... My focus was on performance, and winning a medal for India is a significant achievement. I dedicate this medal to all who supported me—my coaches, physios, teammates, friends, and family. They are my backbone."

Selva entered the medal standings with a jump of 16.17m on his second attempt, followed by a 16.43m leap in the third round. He then delivered his best jump of 16.52m to secure a podium finish.

Praveen Chithravel earned the silver medal with a best jump of 16.58m in a thrilling contest. After starting in fifth place, he improved from an initial jump of 16.05m to 16.31m in the third round, before executing a remarkable 16.58m leap in his fourth attempt to briefly take the lead before ultimately finishing with silver.

This double podium finish highlights India's strong performance in athletics at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

India wrapped up the athletics segment with a total of 10 medals, including five silver and five bronze, while Para Athletics contributed an additional six medals to the overall tally.

The athletics medals significantly bolstered India's campaign, which also included 10 medals in boxing, eight in weightlifting, four in judo, and one bronze in powerlifting by Jhandu Kumar.

With these latest achievements, India’s overall medal count at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games reached 39, comprising 13 gold, 17 silver, and nine bronze, placing them fourth in the medal standings. Australia continued to lead the Games with a total of 163 medals, including 68 gold.
