Seema Kaliramna's Remarkable Achievement
Glasgow [Scotland], July 31: Seema Kaliramna marked a significant milestone by winning a bronze medal at her inaugural Commonwealth Games, describing it as a remarkable accomplishment despite the challenges posed by the chilly weather.
The Indian discus thrower shared her emotional journey, emphasizing the sacrifices made, particularly the difficulty of being separated from her son during the competition.
She expressed gratitude towards her husband, family, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), Sports Authority of India (SAI), NCOE Patiala, and JSW for their unwavering support, dedicating her historic achievement to her husband for his steadfast encouragement throughout her career.
Kaliramna showcased an impressive performance in the women’s discus throw final at the Commonwealth Games 2026, clinching the bronze medal.
Jamaica's Samantha Hall secured the gold with a throw of 61.66m, while Canada's Julia Tunks took silver with 60.67m, and Seema finished third with a throw of 58.65m.
"I am thrilled. This being my first Commonwealth Games, winning a bronze medal makes it even more special. I faced no significant challenges during the event, except for the cold weather, which required me to warm up frequently. Overall, it was a great competition. My husband arrived just two days ago. My son wanted to come along, but this moment is very emotional for me. Unfortunately, I cannot bring him with me, which is quite painful. You could say it’s a sacrifice," Seema shared.
"The AFI has been incredibly supportive, and SAI has played a crucial role in my journey. I am currently training at NCOE Patiala, and JSW has also been a great help. My family has always been there for me whenever I needed support. I dedicate this medal to my husband. All the hard work and sacrifices that led to this achievement are thanks to his unwavering support," she added.
Ravinder, Seema Kaliramna's husband, remarked that winning a medal for the nation is the ultimate aspiration for any athlete. He noted that they share the same passion, ambition, and spirit of representing India on the international stage.
"Every athlete dreams of winning a medal for their country. We both share that dream and spirit," he stated.
