New Delhi [India], May 9: The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received alarming bomb threat emails directed at the Arun Jaitley Stadium following the Indian Army's Operation Sindoor.

These threats were communicated via the DDCA's official email, warning of retaliation at the stadium in response to the military operation.

The email was reported on Friday morning, prompting swift action from local authorities.

“The threatening email arrived between 11 AM and 12 PM at our official email address. It stated that there would be retaliation at the Arun Jaitley Stadium due to Operation Sindoor. We forwarded it to the President, and the bomb squad was dispatched to inspect the venue,” DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma explained.

After a thorough examination, the bomb squad confirmed that there were no explosive devices present.

IPL Suspension Announced

In light of the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the suspension of the ongoing IPL 2025 for one week.

DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma emphasized that this decision was crucial to uplift the morale of the Indian army and demonstrate solidarity with the soldiers stationed at the border.

“It was essential to halt the IPL as our soldiers are engaged in combat at the border, making it inappropriate to continue the matches. The morale of the Indian army must be supported at this time. The entire nation stands with our soldiers; thus, players cannot simply continue playing,” Sharma stated. He added that all state associations must respect the BCCI's decision.

Match Cancellation Due to Security Issues

The highly anticipated clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala was abruptly canceled midway through the first innings due to security concerns.

Fans were promptly informed of the cancellation and instructed to leave the venue, while both teams were safely escorted back to their accommodations.

Ensuring the safety of players and spectators was paramount, and the decision to cancel the match was made in collaboration with local administration and security agencies.

Sanjay Sharma, a member of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), remarked, “Due to the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, yesterday's match was called off midway for security reasons. The HPCA, Punjab Kings franchise, and operational staff had been in constant communication with the administration, which was fully aware of the potential risks.”

Following the match's cancellation, the BCCI arranged a special Vande Bharat train to transport players and the broadcast crew from Dharamshala back to Delhi.
