Scotland Unveils Squad for ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 Tri-Series in Nepal
Scotland's Squad Announcement for CWCL2
New Delhi [India], May 5: Scotland has revealed its 15-member team for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (CWCL2) tri-series set to take place in Nepal. The squad features a first-time call-up for spinner Ollie Jones, alongside the return of batter Michael English for this significant tour.
Ollie Jones, who showcased his talent at the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup earlier this year, is set to make his senior debut. Meanwhile, Michael English is back in the fold after making a notable impact in his previous ODI appearance in July 2024, where he scored a match-winning 107 runs off 122 balls against Namibia, earning the Player of the Match title.
Under the leadership of Richie Berrington, Scotland will compete against the host nation Nepal and the current leaders, the USA, in a four-match series at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal. Currently, Scotland holds the second position in the CWCL2 standings with 34 points and aims to narrow the gap with the USA while enhancing their chances of qualifying for next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Global Qualifier.
Captain Berrington has amassed 738 runs during this cycle, leading a well-established team that includes George Munsey, Scotland’s top run-scorer with 1049 runs, and Brandon McMullen, who has taken 35 wickets to date.
The squad also welcomes back left-arm seamer Bradley Currie, who has claimed 32 wickets in the competition. Currie missed the recent tour to Namibia due to health issues; Scotland managed to win that series 2-1 in T20Is. However, regular players Chris McBride and Mackenzie Jones are not available for selection.
Head coach Owen Dawkins emphasized the significance of this tour, especially against formidable opponents and in challenging conditions. He expressed excitement about the opportunity to play in Nepal, noting the country’s passionate cricket fans and the vibrant atmosphere they create.
“We’re looking forward to facing two very strong teams,” Dawkins stated. “Having played against Nepal last summer in Dundee and during the recent ICC T20 World Cup, we know they are a talented side. The USA team, currently leading the CWCL2 standings, will also pose a significant challenge, so we must perform at our best to secure victories against both teams,” he added.
This marks Scotland’s first trip to Nepal since February 2023, when they celebrated victory at the conclusion of a previous CWCL2 series.
Squad: Richie Berrington (C), Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Jasper Davidson, Oliver Davidson, Michael English, Owen Gould, Jack Jarvis, Ollie Jones, Michael Leask, Finlay McCreath, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Mark Watt.
