Sanju Samson's Heroics Shine in T20 World Cup Semi-Final Against England
Samson's Remarkable Performance and Gesture
In a thrilling semi-final of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson delivered a stellar performance against England, securing a win for India. His impressive innings of 89 runs off just 42 balls earned him the Player of the Match accolade. However, in a show of sportsmanship, Samson dedicated his award to Jasprit Bumrah, acknowledging the bowler's crucial role in the victory. Bumrah, who conceded 33 runs in his four overs, was instrumental during the death overs, allowing only eight runs in the 16th over and restricting Sam Curran and Jacob Bethell to just six runs in the 18th over. "I’m thrilled with how the team performed today, and all credit goes to Jasprit Bumrah. He’s a once-in-a-generation bowler, and I believe this award should be his. Without the bowlers' exceptional performance in the death overs, I wouldn’t be here today," Samson expressed during the post-match presentation.
Initially not included in the starting lineup, Samson seized his chance after Rinku Singh's struggles. He also participated in the second match against Namibia but was replaced when Abhishek Sharma returned to fitness. Throughout the tournament, Samson has amassed 232 runs in just four matches, boasting an impressive average of 77.33 and a strike rate of 201.73. Meanwhile, Bumrah has claimed 10 wickets across seven matches, maintaining an economy rate of 6.62.
