In a thrilling encounter during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Sanju Samson showcased his skills, reinforcing his position as a successor to MS Dhoni. Although GT captain Shubman Gill was dismissed by Noor Ahmed, it was Samson's impressive wicketkeeping that drew significant attention. Sai Sudharsan emerged as the standout performer, scoring 87 runs off 46 balls. Earlier, Gill won the toss and opted to bowl, a decision that paid off as CSK lost three wickets in the powerplay. Kagiso Rabada was instrumental, taking three wickets for just 25 runs, including the key wicket of Samson, who managed only 11 runs.

CSK set a total of 158 runs, with Ruturaj Gaikwad leading the scoring with an unbeaten 74 off 60 balls.

Samson joined CSK for the 2026 season after a trade from the Rajasthan Royals, ending a 13-year tenure with the franchise, where he also served as captain for the last five seasons.
