Samson's Surreal Experience After T20 World Cup Win

In a recent statement, India's prominent cricketer Sanju Samson described his experience of winning the T20 World Cup as surreal, admitting that he often wakes up questioning whether it truly happened. He expressed optimism that with the rise of new talent in India, such victories will become more common.

India made history by clinching its third T20 World Cup title, becoming the first team to defend the championship and win it on home soil, following an impressive 96-run victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Samson shared that winning a World Cup had always been a dream of his, but his journey was filled with unexpected twists, resembling a cinematic narrative. A pivotal moment for him occurred during the match against Zimbabwe, where he shifted his focus from individual performance to addressing the team's needs.

He remarked, "I still wake up in the morning thinking, 'Did it really happen?' But I believe that with the caliber of players emerging in our country, we will see this happen more frequently. You can envision your goals, but the path to achieving them is unpredictable. My career has been a testament to that. I aspired to achieve this a few years back," Samson reflected on the T20 World Cup triumph.

Samson expressed his desire to win a World Cup for India, acknowledging that the journey had its own unique trajectory. He enjoyed the process, stating, "I wanted to achieve something like this, but then I was pulled away from my path. Suddenly, the team needed me to step up, and that’s when my mindset shifted. Before, I was focused on myself, but during the World Cup, it was all about the team and what was required. From the Zimbabwe match onward, I knew I had a role to fulfill."

During the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Samson made a remarkable comeback, overcoming inconsistency to become India's top run-scorer in the tournament. He delivered crucial performances, scoring a series of half-centuries from the virtual quarterfinal against West Indies to the final against New Zealand.

In total, Samson scored 321 runs across five innings, boasting an average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.37, with 27 fours and 24 sixes. He finished as the third-highest run-scorer in the T20 World Cup, surpassing Virat Kohli's record of 319 runs from the 2014 edition, making him the Indian with the most runs in a single T20 World Cup.

Mohammed Siraj, India's fast bowler, described the victory as a "miracle" from his perspective, as he was not part of the original squad and was only included as a replacement for the injured Harshit Rana.

He stated, "I wasn't in the initial squad, but then I got the chance to play, and now I've been part of two World Cup-winning teams. I consider it a miracle for me."
