Samson's Insights After CSK's Win

New Delhi [India] - After leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to victory against Delhi Capitals (DC), batter Sanju Samson expressed his wish to achieve his third century of the season. However, he emphasized that finishing the match unbeaten brought him greater joy.

Despite not being consistently high-scoring throughout the tournament, Samson has proven to be a crucial player for his team whenever he scores a minimum of 20 runs. Over 10 matches, he has accumulated 402 runs, boasting an impressive average of 57.42 and a strike rate of 167.50, which includes two centuries and one half-century. In matches won this season, he has tallied 362 runs in five innings, averaging 181 with a strike rate of 178.32, earning 'Player of the Match' honors in three of those games. Conversely, in losses, he has only managed 40 runs across five innings, with a lower strike rate of 108.1.

During the post-match interview, Samson discussed his calm demeanor and initial batting movements, stating, 'I've been focusing on my initial movements, and it's been effective. This approach has been part of my game for several years, adapting to different bowlers. Honestly, I've always been calm, but you're noticing it more now while I'm at the crease.'

He noted that while chasing a target of around 160 runs, there were opportunities to capitalize during the middle overs, even after a slow start in the powerplay.

Regarding his near miss for a third century, he remarked, 'Hundreds are always significant. I had the desire, but I needed to prioritize the team's success; my partner was performing well, and winning the game brings more confidence and satisfaction. There are still a few matches left, so let's see if I can achieve more centuries.'

In the match itself, DC chose to bat first but found themselves struggling at 69/5. A partnership of 65 runs between Tristan Stubbs (38 runs off 31 balls, including one four and two sixes) and Sameer Rizvi (40* off 24 balls, with four sixes) helped DC reach 155/7 in their 20 overs. Akeal (1/19 in four overs) and Noor (2/22 in three overs) delivered impressive bowling performances. Later, Sanju Samson (87* off 52 balls, with seven fours and six sixes) and Kartik Sharma (41* off 31 balls, with three fours and two sixes) made quick work of the chase, concluding the match in just 17.3 overs with eight wickets remaining.
