Samit Patel's Praise for WCL Season 3
Dubai [UAE], October 14: Samit Patel, a former cricketer from England, has expressed his admiration for the World Championship of Legends (WCL), highlighting its role in uniting some of the best players globally. He described the third season as an exceptional event that allows retired international stars to relive their glory days on the field.
Patel noted that competing against former teammates and rivals, who still demonstrate their remarkable skills, has made this tournament a unique experience. He remarked, “It’s been fantastic. Playing against all the legends from our era is a real treat. Some of them are still active, like AB de Villiers, who performed excellently last year for South Africa. Ravi Bopara is also in impressive form, along with the bowlers. This competition is truly remarkable,” Patel shared during the ongoing WCL Season 3.
He emphasized the distinctiveness of the WCL compared to other cricket leagues, stating that it offers fans a chance to see legendary players, who have left a significant mark on the sport, continue to compete at a high level. “As I mentioned, it’s the World Championship of Legends. Players from around the globe who have excelled in the game for many years are here, and it’s wonderful to be part of this,” he added.
Currently, Patel is playing for the England Champions in WCL 2026, where the team has achieved two victories out of four matches. They are set to face the Australia Champions in their final league match on Wednesday, with a win ensuring their spot in the semi-finals.
Between 2008 and 2015, Patel represented England in six Tests, 36 One-Day Internationals, and 18 T20 Internationals. A dedicated player for Nottinghamshire, he made 629 appearances for the county over 22 years, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. He was part of Nottinghamshire’s County Championship-winning teams in 2005 and 2010 and played a crucial role in their successful white-ball campaigns, including a double victory in 2017. By the end of his career with Nottinghamshire, he had amassed over 25,000 runs and taken more than 800 wickets.
