Sakshi Chaudhary Advances to Finals with Unmatched Performance
Glasgow [Scotland], August 1: Indian boxer Sakshi Chaudhary has described her journey at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as remarkable after achieving a unanimous win in the semi-finals of the women's 51kg category.
She expressed her determination to keep the momentum going into the finals, stating her intention to collaborate with her coaches to formulate a winning strategy aimed at securing the gold medal for India.
Chaudhary showcased her skills with a commanding 5-0 victory over Canada's Amber-Jane Wall, setting her sights on the gold medal match next.
"My journey has been fantastic so far. Winning the semi-final unanimously feels great. I aim to maintain this rhythm in the final and bring home a gold medal for my country. We will strategize with the coaches for the final," Chaudhary remarked.
From the beginning, the Indian boxer dominated the match, winning both the first and second rounds 5-0, before concluding with another flawless round. Her consistent control throughout the bout secured her place in the finals, bringing her closer to the Commonwealth Games gold.
Priya Ghanghas Proudly Secures Silver Medal
Indian boxer Priya Ghanghas also expressed her pride after clinching a silver medal for India, emphasizing her commitment to perform at her best in the finals. She mentioned that her team would analyze her opponent's footage to devise a strategy aimed at winning gold.
Ghanghas narrowly defeated England's Lucy Kings-Wheatley in a tightly contested semi-final of the women's 60kg category, winning 4-1 in the opening round. She maintained her composure and landed the first punch, gaining an early lead.
In the second round, Ghanghas faced a tough challenge as Kings-Wheatley fought back, taking the round 4-1. Despite the intense competition, both boxers exchanged powerful punches, but Priya managed to secure a unanimous decision victory of 5-0.
"I feel incredibly proud to have already earned a silver medal for my country. Before the final, we will review my opponent's videos, prepare our strategy, and give our all on the mat. I will strive to ensure we return home with a gold medal," Ghanghas stated.
