Sakshi Chaudhary: A Rising Star on the Path to Olympic Glory
Sakshi Chaudhary's Inspiring Journey
Sakshi Chaudhary's journey to the Commonwealth Games has been anything but easy. After facing a significant shoulder injury and narrowly missing out on an Olympic qualification, she made a remarkable comeback by defeating former World Champions Minakshi Hooda and Nikhat Zareen. This victory not only secured her a spot in the Commonwealth Games 2026 but also in the Asian Games later this year. Her story serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes navigating the competitive sports landscape in India. A junior World Champion in 2015, Sakshi transitioned to the senior circuit in 2018 and is now focused on achieving success at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games, as well as aiming for a podium finish at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. In an exclusive interview, she shared her aspirations, struggles, and the path ahead.
Chasing Olympic Dreams
Sakshi Chaudhary's Quest for Olympic Gold
"Winning an Olympic gold medal has always been my ultimate dream. Since I began boxing, I have envisioned myself on the Olympic podium with the Indian flag. This dream drives me every day," Sakshi expressed. "I came very close to qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics, missing out by a narrow margin. While it was disappointing, I chose to learn from that experience and return stronger. My focus is now on the Commonwealth and Asian Games, as each competition is a chance to improve and get closer to my dream of winning Olympic gold for India," she added.
Expectations as Motivation
Expectations Fuel Me To Perform Better For My Country
"Representing India is a privilege, and the belief people have in me boosts my confidence rather than adds pressure. Their support inspires me to work harder and give my best in every match. Once I step into the ring, my focus is solely on my opponent and our strategy. I don’t dwell on expectations during the fight; instead, I use them as motivation before entering the ring. They remind me of my responsibilities and inspire me to keep improving," she noted. "Every athlete faces challenges, and mine have been no exception. The injuries I suffered in 2021 and 2022 were among the toughest times in my career. Recovering required patience, discipline, and mental strength, teaching me that success is not just about medals but also about overcoming hardships," she reflected.
Overcoming Challenges
'Challenges Help Me To Come Back Stronger'
"Despite the challenges, I never lost faith in my dream. My family, coaches, and management team have always supported me, giving me the confidence to keep moving forward. Their belief in me, combined with my determination to represent India again, has helped me come back stronger each time," Sakshi remarked. Coming from a small village near Bhiwani, her story is a testament to the power of discipline and hard work in overcoming obstacles. "I understand the challenges faced by young girls from rural backgrounds. We may lack the best facilities, but I believe that determination and hard work can help us overcome many barriers. If my journey inspires even one girl to believe in herself and pursue her dreams, I will consider that a significant achievement," she stated.
A Message to Aspiring Athletes
Never Give Up On Your Dreams
Reflecting on the lessons learned throughout her journey, she said, "Life, like boxing, is filled with challenges and setbacks. There will be days when things don’t go as planned, but those moments should never deter you from moving forward." She concluded with a message for aspiring athletes: "Never give up on your dreams. Stay disciplined, work hard, and believe in yourself, even when the path is tough. Success doesn’t come overnight, but with consistency and perseverance, your efforts will be rewarded. This is the lesson I’ve learned through boxing, and it applies to all aspects of life."
