Sai Sudharsan Joins Elite Club with Five Consecutive IPL Fifties
Historic Achievement in IPL
Sai Sudharsan, the opening batsman for Gujarat Titans, made headlines on May 21 by becoming only the second Indian player to score five consecutive half-centuries in the IPL. This remarkable achievement occurred during the 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings, where he reached the 50-run milestone in just 35 balls. Sudharsan completed his fifth consecutive fifty with a single on the first ball of the 12th over.
Before Sudharsan, Virender Sehwag was the only Indian to have accomplished this feat, achieving five fifties in five matches during the 2012 IPL season while playing for Delhi Capitals. Alongside Sudharsan and Sehwag, David Warner and Jos Buttler have also recorded five consecutive fifties in the IPL, with Warner doing so for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2019 and Buttler for Rajasthan Royals in 2018.

This season, Sudharsan has not only hit five fifties but also one century, making him the leading run-scorer in the 2026 Indian Premier League. He began the season with 13 runs against Punjab Kings on March 31, followed by his first fifty against Rajasthan Royals. On April 4, he scored 73 runs against Riyan Parag's team at Narendra Modi Stadium. He achieved his first IPL century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 24 and contributed significantly with an 87-run innings against CSK in Chennai on April 26. Sudharsan's scores of 57, 55, 61, and 53* against Punjab Kings, RR, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively, led up to his match against Chennai in Ahmedabad on May 21.
In T20 cricket, Riyan Parag holds the record for the most consecutive fifties, having scored seven in a row during the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Assam.
