Sahibzada Farhan Prioritizes Team Success Over Personal Records in T20 World Cup
Farhan's Focus on Team Goals
Colombo [Sri Lanka], February 23: Pakistan's opener Sahibzada Farhan has stated that his main focus during the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is on team performance rather than individual statistics. Ahead of Pakistan's match against England on Tuesday, he emphasized that he is dedicated to contributing to the team's success.
During a pre-match press conference, Farhan responded to inquiries regarding Indian cricketer Virat Kohli's impressive record of 319 runs, the highest in T20 World Cup history, and whether he was aiming for personal milestones. He remarked, “Personally, I don’t pay attention to statistics or records. Even when I perform well, people mention my sixes, runs, and strikes, but I don’t focus on those numbers. In T20, taking risks is crucial. If you get caught up in breaking records, remember that records are meant to be surpassed. My priority is to help Pakistan succeed and elevate its reputation.”
Kohli's remarkable tally of 319 runs in the 2024 tournament came from six matches, boasting an average of 106.33, which included four half-centuries, making it the highest total by any player in the tournament's history.
On the other hand, Sahibzada Farhan has accumulated 220 runs in the current 2026 edition, with at least two matches still to play. He is currently the leading run-scorer, having achieved one century and one fifty in five matches, averaging 73.33.
When discussing the challenge of facing England's fast bowler Jofra Archer, Farhan expressed confidence, downplaying any concerns about Archer's threat. He stated, “Facing Jofra Archer isn’t a significant challenge. We’ve played against him in Pakistan before. Our bowlers can also deliver at 145 km/h, so it’s manageable. While they may have strategies, I have my own plans as well. It should be an exciting match.”
Pakistan's opening match in the Super 8 stage against New Zealand was unfortunately canceled due to rain in Colombo. The team is set to compete against England on February 24 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
