A Tribute to a Musical Legend

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 13: Renowned Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar expressed deep sorrow as he honored the memory of iconic singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday.


After paying his respects to the legendary vocalist known for her hit 'Dum Maaro Dum', Sachin appeared visibly moved, reflecting on the end of an extraordinary musical journey that lasted over eight decades. He was accompanied by his wife, Anjali.



Dr. Prateet Samdani from Breach Candy Hospital confirmed that Asha Bhosle had been suffering from various health complications, ultimately leading to organ failure.


Her son, Anand Bhosle, announced her passing and provided details regarding the funeral arrangements, stating, "My mother passed away today. People can pay their last respects to her at 11 am tomorrow at Casa Grande, Lower Parel, where she lived. Her last rites will be performed at 4 pm tomorrow at Shivaji Park."


As the news of her death circulated, numerous prominent figures from the film industry and politics visited her residence in Mumbai to pay their respects. Among them were Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar, and veteran actress Shabana Azmi.


Asha Bhosle had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday evening due to severe exhaustion and a chest infection.


Recognized as one of the most versatile singers in Indian music history, Asha Bhosle's extensive repertoire included classical pieces, ghazals, cabaret songs, and modern pop. She held a Guinness World Record for the highest number of studio recordings and, alongside her sister Lata Mangeshkar, played a pivotal role in shaping the golden age of Hindi film music.


Born to classical singer and theater actor Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, she began her musical career at a young age, establishing an unmatched legacy.


Her collaborations with composer RD Burman, whom she later married, are celebrated as some of the most iconic in Indian cinema.


Her famous tracks include "Piya Tu Ab To Aaja" and the rebellious anthem "Dum Maro Dum". Her diverse range encompasses the soulful ghazal "Dil Cheez Kya Hai" to playful classics like "Chura Liya Hai Tumne" and the timeless dance hit "Yeh Mera Dil".
