For those unfamiliar, India's 2011 World Cup victory was only the second time the nation claimed the sport's highest honor, ending a 28-year drought since their first win in 1983 under Kapil Dev's captaincy against the West Indies at Lord's. Tendulkar has often mentioned that the 1983 victory inspired him to pursue a career in cricket.
