Ryan ten Doeschate Steps Down from Coaching Role

Ryan ten Doeschate has officially resigned from his position as the assistant coach for India's men's cricket team following the recent white-ball series in England, as reported by a leading sports news outlet.

The former captain of the Netherlands communicated his decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the team's tour in the UK, where India faced setbacks in both the T20I and ODI formats. The team suffered a 4-0 defeat in the T20I series and lost 2-1 in the ODI series.

Reports indicate that ten Doeschate is poised to take on a coaching position with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League.

Having joined India's coaching staff when Gautam Gambhir became head coach after Rahul Dravid's departure post-2024 T20 World Cup victory, ten Doeschate was handpicked by Gambhir and became a vital asset in both batting and fielding strategies.

During his time with the Indian team, he contributed to significant victories, including the 2025 Asia Cup and the successful defense of the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup title. However, the Test team faced challenges, including a loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and a home series whitewash against New Zealand and South Africa.

If he joins KKR, ten Doeschate will reunite with Abhishek Nayar, with whom he previously collaborated in the Indian coaching setup and at the IPL franchise.

Ten Doeschate has a rich history with KKR, having been part of their championship-winning teams in 2012 and 2014. He returned as a fielding coach in 2022 and remained with the coaching staff until 2024, a period that included the team's IPL victory under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir and head coach Chandrakant Pandit. He stepped down from this role after Gambhir took over the Indian team.
