A New Era for Cricket in Russia

Moscow, Russia - On September 19, 2026, the Russian T10 League will officially kick off, marking a significant advancement in the country's cricketing journey. This initiative aims to position Russia as a recognized player in the global cricket arena.

The inaugural matches will take place at the iconic Luzhniki Stadium, featuring four franchises: Moscow Foxes, Kremlin Stars, Kazan Falcons, and St. Petersburg Lions. Over two days, these teams will compete in a total of seven matches, as announced by Cricket Russia.

According to Sambhav Jain, Director of the Russian Cricket Federation, the league is not just about competition; it is part of a broader strategy to promote cricket throughout Russia, engage new players and fans, and enhance opportunities for the sport's growth. With 60 players across four teams, the league will serve as a platform for athletes to gain experience and showcase their skills.

The Russian T10 League introduces a structured domestic cricket calendar, utilizing a fast-paced T-10 format that consists of ten overs per side. This tournament is open to local players, expatriates, and members of the South Asian community, aiming to highlight local talent while making the sport appealing to new audiences. A key goal is to nurture homegrown Russian talent for future national representation.

This league is the first step in the Russia Cricket Development Initiative, which envisions cricket becoming a mainstream sport in the country, complete with a robust domestic league, top-notch facilities in major cities, and a national team competing internationally.

Jain emphasized the timely launch of the league, coinciding with cricket's return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. A city-based franchise model supported by the federation provides a clear path for development, especially as many associate nations strive to enhance their domestic frameworks.
