RCB Secures Victory Against CSK

In a thrilling encounter on April 5 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), led by Rajat Patidar, emerged victorious against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad. This match marked the 11th of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) season. With this win, RCB climbed to the top of the points table, achieving their second consecutive victory, while CSK remained at the bottom after suffering their third straight defeat.

Currently, RCB leads the table with 4 points and a net run rate (NRR) of +2.501. Following them are the Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings, all tied on 4 points but with varying NRRs. In contrast, CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders are struggling at the bottom with no points.

Winning the toss, CSK opted to field first, a decision that initially seemed favorable as RCB struggled to find boundaries in the opening overs. However, RCB quickly turned the game around, showcasing an impressive batting performance that culminated in a formidable total of 250 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. After the early dismissals of openers Phil Salt (46 runs off 30 balls) and Virat Kohli (28 runs off 18 balls), Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar formed a remarkable partnership, scoring 58 runs in just 21 balls. Padikkal contributed significantly with a score of 50 runs off 29 balls.

Patidar continued the assault alongside Tim David, who proved to be a nightmare for CSK bowlers, as they forged a game-changing partnership of 99 runs for the fourth wicket in just 35 balls. David finished with an explosive 70 runs off 25 balls, while Patidar remained unbeaten at 48 runs off 19 balls.

CSK's Struggles in the Chase

CSK, who finished last in the previous season, faced a disastrous start in their chase. They lost their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for just 7 runs in the first over, followed by Ayush Mhatre's dismissal by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, marking his 200th IPL wicket. Jacob Duffy struck again, sending Sanju Samson back to the pavilion for 9 runs, leaving CSK reeling at 3 wickets down within the first three overs.

Despite a valiant effort from Sarfaraz Khan, who scored 50 runs off 25 balls, and some contributions from Prashan Veer (43 runs off 29 balls), CSK's innings faltered. Six of their batsmen fell for single-digit scores, and although Jamie Overton added a quick 37 runs off 16 balls, it was too late for CSK as they succumbed to a 43-run defeat. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the standout bowler for RCB, taking 3 wickets for 41 runs, while Duffy, Abhinandan Singh, and Krunal Pandya each claimed two wickets.
