Malerkotla Claims Gold in Thrilling Final

In a remarkable display of skill, Roundglass Malerkotla secured the gold medal at the inaugural Punjab Hockey League NexGen Girls (5S) by defeating Roundglass Patiala with a score of 4-1 in the championship match held on March 27 in Chandigarh, Punjab.


The tournament featured 19 teams and concluded with an electrifying final, where Malerkotla showcased their prowess throughout the knockout rounds. Roundglass Khalsa College Amritsar took home the bronze medal after a decisive 6-2 victory over Roundglass Ghuman in the third-place match.


The semi-finals highlighted the strength of both finalists, with Malerkotla delivering a dominant performance, winning 11-2 against Khalsa College Amritsar. Despite an early setback, Malerkotla rallied back, led by Navdeep Kaur, who scored four goals, and Harmanpreet Kaur, who added three.


In the other semi-final, Patiala mirrored this dominance, achieving an 11-3 victory over Ghuman. Shivani shone with four goals, while captain Jarmanpreet Kaur contributed a hat-trick to propel her team into the final.


Khalsa College Amritsar regrouped effectively to secure the bronze, with six players contributing to their 6-2 win against Ghuman.


During the final, Malerkotla's captain Navdeep Kaur once again made her mark by scoring two crucial goals. Harmanpreet Kaur and Gurmanpreet Kaur also found the net, leading to a convincing 4-1 win over Patiala.


Sulochani from Roundglass Patiala was honored as the Emerging Player of the Tournament, while Navdeep Kaur of Roundglass Malerkotla was recognized as the Best Player of the Tournament.


The fast-paced 5-a-side format of the tournament demanded high levels of awareness, quick decision-making, and technical precision, all of which Roundglass Malerkotla executed flawlessly on their way to victory.
