Rotterdam Dockers Launch Jersey Ahead of European T20 Premier League Debut
Excitement Grows for the ETPL
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 11: With the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) on the horizon, the Rotterdam Dockers have officially revealed their team jersey, marking a significant step forward in the establishment of cricket in Europe.
The jersey was showcased during an event in Mumbai, attended by Rotterdam Dockers Co-Owners Jonty Rhodes and John Abraham, along with Founder & Managing Director Madhukar Shree and Fireflies.ai Co-founder and CEO Krish Ramineni, as stated in a press release from ETPL.
Additionally, the franchise announced Fireflies.ai as its Official Jersey Partner, with Ramineni joining as a Founding Investor. This collaboration merges a love for cricket with technology and innovation, positioning Fireflies.ai as a key player in the franchise's journey as they prepare for their debut on the European T20 stage.
During the jersey unveiling, Jonty Rhodes expressed, “Rotterdam serves as the gateway to Europe, and the Rotterdam Dockers have a unique chance to support cricket's growth in the region, similar to the dockers who built the city. Participating in the ETPL is thrilling as it allows us to nurture the young talent already present in Europe, especially in the Netherlands, while advancing the sport across the continent. Our goal is to compete for the trophy from the outset, but we also aspire to create a lasting impact on cricket's development in Europe.”
John Abraham added, “Sports have always been integral to my life, and being part of the European T20 Premier League allows us to foster cricket's growth in Europe, particularly by nurturing grassroots talent in the Netherlands, Ireland, and Scotland. Given the quality of players involved and the league's vision, I truly believe the ETPL can help cricket become a global sport, and I am thrilled to be part of this journey with Rotterdam Dockers.”
Krish Ramineni remarked, “Cricket has always been a connection to my roots in India, so being involved with the ETPL and Rotterdam Dockers is very meaningful to me. What started as a jersey partnership evolved into something more profound after I met the team and grasped their vision. With Europe being a crucial market for Fireflies.ai, our goals align naturally.”
“I also see immense potential for AI in sports. In cricket, every ball tells a story. The scoreboard shows what happened, but AI can help explain the reasons behind it. This intersection of cricket and technology is something I am passionate about,” he added.
The Rotterdam Dockers will kick off their campaign against the Amsterdam Flames in the opening match of the ETPL on August 26 in Voorburg.
Co-owned by Jonty Rhodes, John Abraham, and Faf du Plessis, the franchise will be captained by former South African captain Du Plessis, combining international experience with local Dutch talent.
The team boasts several prominent names in T20 cricket, including Heinrich Klaasen, Anrich Nortje, Logan van Beek, and Roelof van der Merwe, alongside rising stars from the Netherlands.
The inaugural ETPL will feature top players from Ireland, the Netherlands, and Scotland, alongside established international stars from the global T20 circuit. By providing a platform for emerging European cricketers to compete with and learn from some of the world's best, the league aims to foster cricket's growth in the region and inspire the next generation of talent.
ETPL Season 1 is scheduled to take place from August 26 to September 20 across Voorburg in the Netherlands and Dublin in Ireland, with six city-based franchises vying for the title of the first-ever European T20 Premier League champions.
