Bishnupur (Manipur) [India], September 24: Roshibina Devi has made headlines by clinching a silver medal in Wushu at the ongoing Asian Games in Japan, despite battling the flu prior to her departure for the event, as revealed by her mother, Naorem Ongbi Romila Devi.

In the women's sanda 60 kg final held in Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday, Roshibina faced off against China's Zhang Xiaoyu, ultimately securing her second consecutive silver medal. The match concluded with Roshibina losing both rounds with a score of 0-5, as reported by ESPN.

Naorem expressed mixed feelings about her daughter's performance, stating, “As a mother, I wish she had won gold, but showing disappointment would only upset her more. She competed despite being unwell.”

Back home, the atmosphere was filled with joy as family members gathered to celebrate Roshibina's achievement, chanting her name in excitement.

With a bronze medal from the 2018 Asian Games already under her belt, Roshibina has now become the first Indian woman to earn three consecutive medals in Wushu at the Asian Games.

Her journey in Japan has been impressive, highlighted by a victory over the 2023 world champion, Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from Vietnam.

Earlier in the week, Roshibina secured her spot in the finals by defeating Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semi-finals.

This silver medal marks India's 14th medal at the current Asian Games, contributing to a total of six silvers and seven bronze medals so far.
