Roshibina Devi Shines at Asian Games

In a remarkable achievement, Indian wushu athlete Roshibina Devi has reached the finals of the women's 60kg Sanda category at the 2026 Asian Games held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. This victory guarantees India at least a silver medal, matching the nation's best performance in wushu at these Games.

Roshibina triumphed over Indonesia's Thania Kusumaningtyas with a score of 2-0 in the semi-finals, securing her spot in the championship match scheduled for tomorrow.

Interestingly, Roshibina was not part of the initial team selected for the Games. She stepped in after Divyanshi, who was originally chosen, had to withdraw due to an injury. Having previously earned a silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, Roshibina is now on the verge of adding another medal to her collection as she prepares to compete for gold.

In the final, she will face off against China's Zhang Xiaoyu.

Earlier in the competition, Roshibina had defeated Chu Man Sin in the quarter-finals, which took place at the Aichi Prefectural Martial Arts Hall, ensuring her advancement to the semi-finals and securing at least a bronze medal.

On the same day, India made significant strides in the medal tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026, currently holding the 13th position with a total of 12 medals.

Mirabai Chanu contributed to the medal count by winning silver in the women's 49kg weightlifting category, while the Indian men's badminton team claimed bronze after a 3-1 defeat against China in the semi-finals.

In shooting events, the trio of Raiza Dhillon, Parinaaz Dhaliwal, and Maheshwari Chauhan earned bronze in the women's skeet team event, while Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Mairaj Ahmed Khan, and Bhavtegh Singh also secured bronze in the men's skeet team event.

In soft tennis, Jay Meena faced Japan's Takuya Kurosaka but still managed to finish with a bronze medal.
