Azharuddin Commends Rohit Sharma's Performance

In Hyderabad, former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin expressed his admiration for Rohit Sharma following his remarkable century against England at Lord's. Azharuddin highlighted that Sharma has demonstrated his capability to perform at the highest level.

Sharma made history by becoming the first Indian to score an ODI century at the iconic Lord's, amassing 138 runs off 110 deliveries during India's third ODI against England on Sunday.

Despite Rohit's impressive performance, India faced disappointment as they lost the match by 27 runs, finishing with a total of 360-7 in response to England's 387-3.

Azharuddin remarked, "He played exceptionally well. He has shown that he can still compete. I am confident he will be part of the 2027 World Cup team."

He also noted that England outperformed India, stating that while the Indian squad boasts talented players, the batting lineup struggled to adapt to the game's demands.

"I watched the highlights. England played brilliantly. We have exceptional players, but they did not adjust their batting to the situation. The younger players are performing admirably," he added.

Rohit's outstanding innings ultimately went unrewarded as England secured a 2-1 series victory with their record total of 387/3, featuring notable contributions from Ben Duckett (141), Jacob Bethell (91), Joe Root (74*), and Jos Buttler (41*).

India appeared to be in a strong position with Rohit's 147-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill (77) and a 113-run collaboration with Virat Kohli (74), but they faltered after reaching 304/2. Sam Curran's four wickets proved crucial as England maintained their composure.
