Rohit Sharma's Path to Redemption

Dinesh Lad, who played a pivotal role in shaping Rohit Sharma's early career, has advised the former Indian captain to disregard the negative feedback regarding his fitness and performance. Instead, he should concentrate on enjoying the game as he prepares for the upcoming World Cup, a format he excels in.

Recently, Rohit has struggled in ODIs, scoring only 61 runs in three innings during his last series against New Zealand, which has led to increased scrutiny from critics.

As a coach, Lad believes Rohit has nothing to prove. He is determined to win the ODI World Cup and has expressed clear goals for his career. Despite concerns about age, Lad insists Rohit remains fit and capable.

“Critics will always have their opinions; that’s part of the game. Rohit’s experience is vital for India’s success in the finals. His technique is sound, and in 50-over cricket, it’s essential to find your rhythm,” Lad stated.

He highlighted Rohit's ability to adapt his game, showcasing not just big shots but also smart singles and doubles during the IPL. Lad questioned the critics' perspectives and firmly believes Rohit should be included in the team.

Lad also responded to former selector Saba Karim's comments about Rohit needing to prove his fitness and form for future selections. He emphasized that all players must perform well to secure their spots, not just Rohit.

“The next six months are crucial for every player, not just Rohit. I am confident he will be part of the 2027 ODI World Cup,” he asserted.

Lad expressed his belief that Rohit will excel in the coming months, stating, “If given the chance, he will shine.” He noted that Rohit has nothing to prove, having retired from Tests and T20Is while maintaining a strong ODI record.

With three ODI double centuries to his name and a record five centuries in the 2019 World Cup, Rohit’s statistics speak volumes. Lad believes Rohit's desire to win the ODI World Cup keeps him motivated.

“He understands that his goal is to win the ODI World Cup for India. I believe he will continue playing until he achieves that,” Lad remarked.

Despite not participating in other formats, Rohit is dedicated to his training and fitness, preparing rigorously for the World Cup.

When asked what advice he would give Rohit during this critical phase, Lad suggested, “He should focus on staying at the crease. Once settled, he becomes a formidable player. I want him to replicate his 2019 World Cup performance.”

“Rohit’s technique, temperament, and fitness are all in order. I am confident he will be fully prepared before the World Cup. He should participate in domestic 50-over matches. Criticism will always exist, but Rohit should focus on enjoying the game,” Lad concluded.
