Rohit Sharma Reclaims Top Spot in ICC ODI Rankings Ahead of South Africa Series
Rohit Sharma Tops ICC ODI Rankings
New Delhi, November 26: Veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma has regained the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI batting rankings just in time for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, which kicks off on November 30 in Ranchi.
Sharma's rise to the top comes after New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, who previously held the spot, missed the last two ODIs during the Black Caps' clean sweep against the West Indies. This allowed Sharma to leapfrog him in the rankings right before the first ODI against South Africa.
In other notable movements, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra has ascended to 12th place, while his teammate Devon Conway has climbed to 31st among ODI batters.
West Indies captain Shai Hope has also made headlines, moving up to eighth place following his impressive unbeaten century in the second ODI against New Zealand.
In the T20I all-rounder rankings, Zimbabwe's Sikander Raza has achieved a career milestone by becoming the top-ranked all-rounder for the first time.
In the Test batting rankings, England's Ollie Pope has risen to 24th, while Bangladeshi players Mushfiqur Rahim, Litton Das, and Mominul Haque have all improved their standings after a significant 217-run victory over Ireland.
In the Test bowling rankings, Australia's Mitchell Starc has moved up four spots to fifth, and Bangladesh's Taijul Islam has improved to 15th.
Additionally, Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, as confirmed by ICC Chairman Jay Shah. This tournament is set to take place in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
Throughout his T20 World Cup journey, Rohit has participated in 47 matches across nine editions, amassing 1,220 runs with an average of 34.86 and a strike rate of 133.04. He played a pivotal role in leading Team India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 held in Barbados, after which he announced his retirement from T20I cricket.
