Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 23: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended its congratulations to former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who was awarded the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday evening.
This prestigious award recognizes Sharma's significant contributions to Indian cricket over the last twenty years.

During his captaincy, Rohit led the Indian men's team to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 held in Barbados and the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai.
As one of the most accomplished ODI batsmen, Sharma has amassed 11,720 runs in 285 matches, maintaining an average of 48.83 and a strike rate of 92.97. He holds multiple world records, including the highest individual score of 264 and three double centuries.
Rohit made his Test debut in 2013, participating in 67 matches and scoring 4,301 runs, which includes 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries, with a personal best of 212 against South Africa in 2019.
He debuted in T20 in 2007, accumulating 4,231 runs in 159 matches, and was the leading scorer in the format during the 2024 season. He has celebrated two T20 World Cup victories: the first in 2007 as a player and the second in 2024 as captain.
In 2024, Rohit became the first male player to participate in over 150 T20 internationals, although he announced his retirement from the format following India's T20 World Cup triumph.
The Padma Awards 2026 were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
The initial Civil Investiture Ceremony for the Padma Awards 2026 took place on May 26, where 66 Padma Awards were distributed.
