Rohit Sharma Returns to Training for Upcoming ODIs

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 5: Renowned Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma is back in training as he readies himself for the One Day International series against New Zealand, which kicks off on January 11.


The 'Hitman' is not only focused on the immediate series but is also setting his sights on the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Fans can look forward to seeing both Rohit and Virat Kohli in action during the three-match ODI series.


Rohit shared a glimpse of his practice session on Instagram, posting a photo of himself batting in the nets.


Last year was particularly significant for the former Indian captain, as he achieved numerous milestones, including leading India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy, where he scored a crucial 76 runs in the final.


In a remarkable achievement, Rohit became the top-ranked ODI batter in the ICC rankings for the first time in his career and also climbed to become India's third-highest run-scorer in ODIs. He made history last month by becoming the fourth Indian player to surpass 20,000 runs in international cricket during the final ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam.


In November, he broke Shahid Afridi's long-standing record for the most sixes in ODIs, achieving this during India's first ODI against South Africa at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi, where he hit his 352nd six, surpassing Afridi's record of 351 sixes that had stood since 2015. Currently, Rohit has hit 355 sixes in 279 ODIs.


Concluding the year on a high note, Rohit accumulated 650 runs in 14 innings, boasting an average of 50.00 and a strike rate exceeding 100, with two centuries and four fifties, his highest score being 121*. In May, he announced his retirement from Test cricket, marking the end of a distinguished phase in his international career.
