In a heartfelt tribute, Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma praised former fielding coach T Dilip for his significant impact on Indian cricket, highlighting his role in securing two ICC T20 World Cup victories and an ICC Champions Trophy title. Rohit described Dilip as a 'legend' who 'created magic within the group' and was a dedicated 'workhorse' behind the scenes.
Dilip served as the fielding coach for the Indian men's team from 2021 until the end of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He returned for a second term during India's Test tour of the UK in 2025 but was not retained after his contract ended. Additionally, Ryan ten Doeschate, the assistant coach, has stepped down following the white-ball series in England and has taken on a new role with Kolkata Knight Riders as Head of Cricket Strategy.

The introduction of a fielding medal ceremony during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which recognized the 'Best Fielder of the Match,' became popular, with players like KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma among the recipients. This initiative aimed to foster a culture of excellence in fielding and encourage players to take risks.
In his farewell message on Instagram, Dilip expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as India's fielding coach, stating, 'It is difficult to find the right words for a journey that has meant so much.' He reflected on the memories created during his tenure, particularly the excitement surrounding the fielding medal presentations.
'Five years. It is difficult to find the right words for a journey that has meant so much. When I first walked into this setup, I came in with one simple intention, to give everything I had every single day. Fielding has always been my way of contributing to the game I love, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in this team’s journey,' he wrote.
'The fielding medal will always hold a very special place in my heart. Seeing the excitement it created in the dressing room, the smiles it brought, and the value the players attached to it are memories I’ll carry with me forever,' he added.
Dilip also expressed his pride in being part of two ICC Men’s T20 World Cup victories (2024 & 2026), an ICC Champions Trophy win (2025), and two Asia Cup triumphs (2023 & 2025), along with memorable experiences on the global stage. He thanked the BCCI and the players for their support during his tenure.
He acknowledged the trust placed in him by coaches Rahul Dravid and Gautam Gambhir, as well as players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli, who led the team in various formats.
'And to every player, coach, and member of the support staff… thank you. The memories we’ve created together will stay with me for the rest of my life. Subhadeep Ghosh has been appointed as the new fielding coach for the Indian men's cricket team ahead of their upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka, as reported by Cricinfo. Ghosh previously worked with the India women's team and has experience with India A and Assam's senior men's team.
India's two-Test series against Sri Lanka is set to commence on August 15 in Galle, with the second Test scheduled for August 23 at the SSC in Colombo. Prior to the series, the team will participate in a three-day practice match in Colombo starting August 7.
