Bopanna's Encouragement for the Indian Women's Team

New Delhi, April 3: Rohan Bopanna, a former Indian tennis star, has extended his best wishes to the Indian women's team as they prepare for the Billie Jean King Cup, scheduled from April 7 to April 11.

The Indian squad has initiated a five-day training camp at the DLTA Stadium in New Delhi, gearing up for the Billie Jean King Cup Group I – Asia/Oceania round-robin. Their goal is to secure a spot in the prestigious World Group for only the third time, as stated in an official announcement.

Bopanna expressed his support for the team, urging them to have faith in their abilities and to keep pushing forward. He stated, “I wish the Indian Women’s team all the best in the upcoming Billie Jean Cup in New Delhi. You girls have this; keep believing and keep fighting. Let’s go, girls!”

The team features players such as Ankita Raina, Sahaja Yamalapalli, Vaishnavi Adkar, Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, Rutuja Bhoosale, and Vaidehee Chaudhari, according to the release.

This preparatory camp, running from April 1 to April 5, is crucial for the team as they get ready for the tournament at the same venue.

Under the guidance of Captain Vishal Uppal, a former two-time Davis Cup player, the team will focus on enhancing their match fitness, developing singles and doubles strategies, and improving their on-court synergy while getting accustomed to the hard courts that will host 15 matches over five days.

India will face regional rivals including New Zealand and the Republic of Korea, with the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association offering free entry for fans to support the team from the center courts.

During the camp, Uppal remarked, “The competition level in this group is very high, with each team featuring players who can turn a match around. Our consistency and decision-making during critical moments will be vital.”

Entering the competition with positive momentum, India aims to build on last year’s success in the Billie Jean King Cup Asia & Oceania Group I Qualifiers, where they achieved 2-1 victories against Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, and the Republic of Korea. With New Zealand, Indonesia, and Mongolia also competing this year, India is targeting a top-two finish to maintain their World Group aspirations.

As the team prepares for the qualifiers, their focus remains on delivering strong performances and taking significant steps toward rejoining the World Group for the third time. With the advantage of home conditions and recent momentum, India is determined to turn their strong performances into a memorable campaign.
