North Zone Triumphs Over West Zone

New Delhi, March 14: Rishabh Singh delivered an explosive performance, scoring an unbeaten century that propelled North Zone to a decisive nine-wicket win against West Zone in the JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 Cricket Trophy. This match took place at the Roshanara Cricket Club, part of the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) National Convention in New Delhi.


In another match on the same day, South Zone dominated East Zone, winning by eight wickets at the Delhi Police Ground.


Rishabh's remarkable innings of 102 runs came off just 43 balls, featuring 18 boundaries and two sixes. Captain Akash Rawal contributed 29 runs as North Zone successfully chased down the target of 134 runs in a mere 11.1 overs.


Earlier, West Zone, after choosing to bat first, was dismissed for 133 runs in 19.2 overs. Sanju Samyal was the top scorer with 30 runs, while Taus Rizvi and Ashwin Ferro added 24 and 23 runs, respectively. Vinay stood out with the ball for North Zone, taking three wickets.


In the match between South Zone and East Zone, South Zone showcased a stellar bowling performance, led by Shiva Krishna, who took 4 wickets for just 5 runs, helping to dismiss East Zone for a mere 49 runs. Vijeth Kumar then scored a quick 26 runs off 15 balls, allowing South Zone to chase down the target in under five overs.


Looking ahead, North Zone is set to face South Zone on Sunday, while East Zone will compete against West Zone in the second match of the day at the Delhi Police Ground.


In addition to cricket, the table tennis team events were held at Roshanara Club, featuring various sports journalists' associations from across the nation. The Delhi Sports Journalists Association (DSJA-1) defeated the Sports Writers Association of Bengaluru (SWAB-1), while the Sports Journalists Association of Mumbai (SJAM-1) triumphed over the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists Association (TNSJA-1), both securing spots in the finals.


The DSJA-1 team, consisting of Kushan Sarkar, Bharat Sharma, and Norris Pritam, will face the SJAM-1 team, which includes Amol Karhadkar, Ashwin Ferro, and Akush Dhavre, in the final match on Monday at the same venue.


Moreover, the Modern Pythian Games were also conducted, with numerous senior journalists participating in various events.


This four-day convention, organized by the Delhi Sports Journalist Association (DSJA), marks the return of this esteemed gathering to the national capital after over twenty years, celebrating 50 years of the federation and uniting sports journalists from all over the country.
