Rinku Singh's New Role and Gratitude
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], March 26: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his administration for his recent appointment as a Regional Sports Officer.
In a video shared on the official X account of the Government of UP, the talented left-handed batter conveyed his gratitude, stating, “I am sincerely thankful to Chief Minister @myogiadityanath ji for the honor of receiving ₹3 crore and the responsibility of being a Regional Sports Officer.”
The 27-year-old cricketer mentioned that due to his commitments with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he was unable to meet the Chief Minister in person but looks forward to doing so after the IPL 2026, where he plans to collect his appointment letter.
Rinku gained fame for his remarkable performance against the Gujarat Titans during IPL 2023, where he hit five consecutive sixes in the final over, leading KKR to a thrilling victory. Since then, he has achieved significant milestones, including winning gold at the Asian Games, the Asia Cup, and the T20 World Cup with the Indian team.
As a dynamic finisher, Rinku has played a crucial role in securing victories for the Indian men's cricket team, showcasing his ability to hit sixes under pressure.
In his T20I career, Rinku has accumulated 665 runs from 45 matches, boasting an impressive average of 39.11 and a strike rate of 155.73, along with three half-centuries. He has also participated in a few ODIs, claiming one wicket in T20Is and ODIs combined.
For the upcoming IPL 2026 season, Rinku has been appointed as the vice-captain of KKR, stepping into a leadership role alongside Ajinkya Rahane, succeeding Venkatesh Iyer, who was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹7 crore.
During a ceremony for distributing appointment letters and rewards to international medalists, CM Yogi highlighted Uttar Pradesh's pioneering initiative to prioritize athletes in government roles, stating, “UP is the first state in India to prioritize athletes in government service. We have issued appointment letters to over 500 athletes for various police positions. Rinku Singh has been appointed as a Regional Sports Officer due to his cricketing achievements and performance at the Asian Games.”
