Richa Ghosh Celebrates Indian Women's Cricket Team's Gold Medal Victory at Asian Games

Aichi-Nagoya [Japan], September 22: Richa Ghosh, the wicketkeeper-batter for the Indian women's cricket team, expressed her joy following India's triumph in securing the gold medal at the Asian Games.

Ghosh shared that the team had a clear goal of clinching gold from the outset of the tournament and was thrilled to see that ambition realized. She commended the collective effort of her teammates and expressed her personal satisfaction with the outcome.

In the women's T20 cricket final held on Tuesday, India triumphed over Sri Lanka by 147 runs, marking their second consecutive gold medal at the Asian Games. This victory also represented India's first gold in the current edition of the event.

"I am extremely happy because everyone has been striving towards winning the gold medal. Our sole aim at the start of the tournament was to secure gold. Therefore, we are all very pleased with the result, and I personally feel fantastic," Ghosh remarked after the match.

She emphasized the team's strong performances in both the Asia Cup and the Asian Games, noting that the players' familiarity with one another contributed to their success as a cohesive unit. Ghosh highlighted the enjoyment of playing cricket together and the joy of celebrating their victories as a team.

"Participating in a tournament like this allows you to play alongside familiar teammates. I believe we performed exceptionally well in both the Asia Cup and here. As a team, we played brilliantly, enjoyed our cricket, and most importantly, celebrated our wins together," she added.

Ghosh mentioned that the team arrived in Aichi-Nagoya with confidence after their Asia Cup victory. She explained that their focus was on playing well, performing as a unit, and defending their gold medal by taking each match as it comes while maintaining a straightforward approach.

"After the Asia Cup, we came here with confidence. Our goal was to play good cricket, perform well as a team, and win every match. Knowing we had a medal to defend, we concentrated on playing well and taking it one game at a time. We kept our approach simple and focused on our objective," she stated.

Ghosh dedicated the gold medal from the Asian Games to her family, friends, and all those who have supported her throughout her journey.

"I would like to dedicate this achievement to my family, friends, and everyone who has worked tirelessly and supported me along the way. My family was present to watch the match today. I will be in Japan for a few more days, and I look forward to spending quality time with them and celebrating this achievement together," she concluded.

Both teams reached the final with ease, as India defeated Japan in the quarter-finals and Bangladesh in the semi-finals, while Sri Lanka overcame Malaysia and Pakistan in their respective knockout matches.

The Women in Blue secured the gold medal at the 2023 edition after a 19-run victory over Sri Lanka in the final held in Hangzhou.
