RCB's Jitesh Sharma Sets Sights on IPL 2026 with Renewed Determination
RCB's Ambitious Outlook for IPL 2026
Jitesh Sharma, the vice-captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has expressed that the team is entering the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with a fresh perspective, rather than resting on the success of their previous title win. Ahead of their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) this Saturday, Sharma stated that the focus is on pursuing a second consecutive IPL title instead of merely defending their championship. He remarked, “Honestly, it’s irrelevant. Our director, Mo Bobat, has made it clear that we are not defending the title; we are chasing it. Our hunger remains the same as last year. Many have forgotten that we are the champions.”
Reflecting on the new season, Sharma noted that it presents an opportunity to start anew. “This is a fresh season. We need to approach each game one at a time. However, we carry the confidence from our past achievements as we move forward,” he added.
Sharma also discussed the weight of leadership responsibilities. “Receiving such a role makes you feel grateful and privileged. I strive to contribute positively to my team and RCB. Being the vice-captain adds an extra layer of responsibility,” he explained.
On the technical front, Sharma is concentrating on enhancing his skills, particularly against fast bowlers. “I am focusing on improving my game against fast bowlers. There’s always room for growth as a player. Perfection is unattainable, and continuous improvement is essential for success,” he stated.
As RCB prepares to face CSK, who have faced two losses in a row this season, Sharma remains unfazed by their recent performance. “Our focus is solely on our process rather than their past week. You can’t judge based on that. T20 cricket is unpredictable; it can be anyone’s day, whether a player scores runs or takes wickets,” he emphasized, underscoring the thrilling unpredictability of the format.
