RCB Dominates GT in IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 with a 92-Run Victory
Gujarat Titans Suffer Heavy Loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru
In a stunning display, the Gujarat Titans (GT) were defeated by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1, held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala, losing by a significant 92 runs. Despite this setback, GT still has another opportunity to secure a spot in the tournament final. However, their performance with both bat and ball against RCB was far from impressive. Following the match, New Zealand cricketer Glenn Philips expressed his frustration during a post-match press conference when questioned by a reporter about whether GT had given up on chasing the target after RCB set a daunting score of 254. Philips labeled the inquiry as a 'silly question,' stating, 'That’s a silly question. That is a really silly question. No one goes in there waiting to go, ‘Oh, you know what? We’re just going to give up on this one.’ Why would we do that as professional cricketers? That’s a terrible question.' He further explained, 'We went out there, we gave it everything. Unfortunately, when you’re trying to chase 250, everything has to go right. And we went out there to try and make everything go right, and obviously it didn’t.'
Rajat Patidar's Explosive Performance Leads RCB to Victory
Rajat Patidar Smashes 93 As RCB Reach Final
RCB set an impressive total of 254/5, marking the highest score ever recorded in a playoff match in IPL history. Rajat Patidar was the standout performer, scoring 93 runs off just 33 balls, which included an astonishing nine sixes. Virat Kohli contributed significantly with 43 runs off 25 balls, helping to establish a rapid start. Krunal Pandya also played a crucial role, partnering with Patidar for a 95-run stand in just 35 balls, scoring 43 runs off 28 balls. On the bowling front, Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder each took two wickets, with figures of 2-54 and 2-39, respectively.
The defending champions then restricted the 2022 title holders, GT, to a mere 162 runs, taking five wickets during the powerplay. Rahul Tewatia's innings of 68 runs off 43 balls was not enough to turn the tide. Jacob Duffy emerged as the leading bowler with 3 wickets for 39 runs, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rasikh Salam Dar, and Krunal Pandya each claimed two wickets. With this victory, RCB advanced to the IPL final for the second consecutive year.
