New Delhi, November 28: Malolan Rangarajan, the coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), expressed his delight over Asha Sobhana's successful transition to UP Warriorz during the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction held on Thursday.

Sobhana was acquired by UP Warriorz for a sum of Rs 1.10 crore. She previously played a crucial role for RCB, taking 17 wickets in 15 matches for the franchise.

During a press briefing, Rangarajan shared his happiness for Asha's new opportunity, reflecting on her contributions to RCB's victory in 2024 and acknowledging her absence in 2025 due to injury. "I’m genuinely thrilled for her; she deserves this success and the financial reward that comes with it," he stated.

Rangarajan also discussed RCB's auction strategy, noting, "We have successfully addressed our needs, focusing on enhancing our bowling lineup while supporting our retained players to maximize their potential. We are pleased with our current position, although there is still some work to be done."

In another significant move, New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr was signed by Mumbai Indians for Rs 3 crore during the WPL 2026 auction. The 25-year-old has been part of the MI squads that clinched two WPL titles.

Lisa Keightley, head coach of Mumbai Indians, emphasized the importance of retaining their core team, stating, "We are thrilled to have our key players back, as they are capable of winning matches, which is crucial. Consistency within the team can provide a competitive edge."

Keightley added, "We were aware of the financial limits, but we believe Kerr is worth the investment, and we are excited to welcome her back."

Across three WPL seasons, Kerr has played 29 matches, scoring 437 runs and taking 40 wickets. Last season, she earned the Purple Cup with an impressive tally of 18 wickets.
