Ravindra Jadeja's Cryptic Response Following BCCI Selection Changes
Jadeja Reacts to BCCI's Selection Committee Shake-Up
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 7: Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja shared a playful remark shortly after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Ajit Agarkar's departure from his role as chief selector.
Agarkar's term as the head of the BCCI's senior men's selection committee concluded on October 4. He had assumed the position in July 2023 and chose not to extend his tenure. Under his leadership, India secured three ICC titles: the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.
In response to the BCCI's announcement regarding the opening in the selection committee, Jadeja humorously asked, “What’s the procedure?” accompanied by a laughing emoji.
Jadeja recently returned to the ODI squad for the three-match series against West Indies after missing earlier ODIs against Afghanistan and England this year. In the two matches he played, he recorded bowling figures of 2/75 and 0/54 over 10 overs.
In his last 15 ODIs since 2025, Jadeja has accumulated 149 runs in 10 innings, averaging 29.80, with a top score of 32 and a strike rate exceeding 95. His bowling has seen a slight decline, with only 14 wickets taken in 15 matches at an average of 47.93, his best figures being 3/26. This year, he has claimed just two wickets in five matches and scored 43 runs in three innings, with a highest score of 27.
Despite the emergence of young spinners like Manav Suthar, Jadeja remains a crucial part of India's Test lineup. In the two Tests against Sri Lanka, he scored 65 runs across three innings, with a best of 43, and took eight wickets at an average of 33.57, achieving best figures of 3/57.
His availability for the upcoming five ODIs against New Zealand starting November 22, along with two subsequent Tests, is still uncertain as the squads have yet to be announced.
Prior to the first ODI against West Indies, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak expressed confidence in Jadeja's potential for the 2027 ODI World Cup, highlighting his all-round skills and experience.
“I believe he is certainly in consideration,” Kotak stated to reporters before the match, as reported by ICC. “I’m not part of the selection committee, so I can’t speak to their thought process. However, those who are playing for India are likely among the 20-25 players who could be selected for the World Cup.”
“Jadeja’s fielding prowess and batting capabilities enhance his prospects. He is an exceptional all-rounder, and his records speak for themselves. The final team composition will depend on the selectors, captain, and head coach, but Jadeja remains one of the finest fielders globally,” the batting coach added.
“His bowling, batting, and invaluable experience are irreplaceable. Just like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Jadeja contributes significantly to the team,” he concluded.
