Ravichandran Ashwin Discusses Arjun Tendulkar's Role at Lucknow Super Giants

Ashwin's Take on Arjun Tendulkar's Future with LSG

Ravichandran Ashwin, the renowned Indian cricketer, shared his candid views regarding Arjun Tendulkar's prospects with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in his inaugural season with the team in 2026. The all-rounder from Goa made a switch to the Rishabh Pant-led squad from the Mumbai Indians (MI) through a trade agreement prior to the 19th edition of the IPL, securing an annual salary of Rs. 30 Lakhs. After spending five years with MI, where he was initially signed for Rs. 20 Lakhs in the 2021 mini auction and later for Rs. 30 Lakhs in both the 2022 and 2025 mega auctions, Arjun participated in only five matches during his tenure.

Despite joining LSG for increased playing opportunities, Ashwin expressed skepticism about Arjun's chances of making it to the playing XI. He stated, "Arjun Tendulkar won’t play at all, and let’s not even go there. It’s quite challenging given the presence of Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, and Mohammad Shami in the squad. With so many fast bowlers, how will he get a chance? I don’t see him fitting in unless there are numerous injuries." This commentary was shared during a recent interaction on his YouTube channel.

Following an injury crisis in their fast bowling department last season, LSG has strengthened their pace attack ahead of IPL 2026. In addition to Arjun, they have acquired veteran pacer Mohammed Shami from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and purchased Anrich Nortje during the auction. Notably, Mohsin Khan missed the entire previous season due to injury, while Mayank Yadav played only two matches. Fortunately, both players are fit for the upcoming season. The Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise also includes Akash Singh, Prince Yadav, and Avesh Khan as part of their pace-bowling lineup.

LSG is set to begin their campaign on April 1 against the Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. On a personal note, Arjun recently tied the knot with Saaniya Chandok, celebrating with a star-studded guest list.
