Ravi Shastri Receives Prestigious Recognition

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 9: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has honored former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri by naming a stand at the Wankhede Stadium after him on Thursday.


Shastri, who has enjoyed a remarkable career as a player, commentator, and coach, reflected on the importance of this recognition, describing it as a significant milestone in his enduring relationship with Indian cricket.


During the unveiling ceremony, Shastri expressed his heartfelt appreciation and pride for the honor. He stated, “This is a tremendous honor for me. Achieving this moment requires immense dedication. I am truly proud and grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for this recognition,” he remarked.


In addition to Shastri, the MCA also dedicated stadium gates to cricket legends Dilip Sardesai, Eknath Solkar, and Diana Edulji, celebrating their remarkable contributions to the sport.


The unveiling event was attended by Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, along with MCA President Ajinkya Naik, Apex Council members, and other notable figures from the cricket community. The decision to honor these cricketing icons was made during an MCA Apex Council meeting in February.


The Level 1 Stand beneath the Press Box at Wankhede Stadium has been named in honor of Ravi Shastri, recognizing his exceptional contributions to both Mumbai and Indian cricket as a player, leader, and coach.


Furthermore, Gate No. 3, Gate No. 5, and Gate No. 6 have been designated as the Dilip Sardesai Gate, Diana Edulji Gate, and Eknath Solkar Gate, respectively, paying homage to these Mumbai legends who have left a lasting legacy in Indian cricket.


MCA President Ajinkya Naik remarked, “This ceremony is a proud moment for Mumbai cricket as we gather on April 9 to honor these legendary figures.
