Rashid Khan Celebrates Gujarat Titans' Consistency After IPL Victory
Gujarat Titans Secure Playoff Spot with Dominant Win
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India] - On May 22, Gujarat Titans (GT) spinner Rashid Khan expressed his admiration for the team's unwavering consistency following their impressive 89-run triumph over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Thursday, which ensured a top-two finish in the IPL 2026 season.
Since their debut in the IPL in 2022, Gujarat Titans have successfully qualified for the playoffs in four consecutive seasons, achieving this milestone in 2022, 2023, 2025, and now in 2026. They claimed the IPL championship in their inaugural season and are now aiming for their second title this year. With nine victories out of 14 matches, they have amassed 18 points, placing them second in the IPL 2026 standings, just behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
After the match against CSK, Rashid Khan commended his teammates for their consistent performances over the years. He emphasized that the team's success stems from maintaining simplicity, focusing on one match at a time, and giving their utmost effort without fixating on their position in the standings.
“Winning nine out of 14 matches is a fantastic achievement for any team. I believe that over the last five years, GT has played some remarkable cricket. Except for last year, when we had five wins, our overall winning percentage has been impressive. It’s all about keeping things straightforward and not overthinking our final position. We take each game as it comes and give 100%, without stressing about being in the top four or two; success will follow as long as we keep it simple,” Rashid stated during the post-match press conference.
The victory was marked by an exceptional bowling performance from the GT bowlers. Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada each took three wickets, helping to dismiss CSK for a mere 140 runs while chasing a target of 230.
In terms of batting, captain Shubman Gill (84), Sai Sudharsan (64), and Jos Buttler (57*) were the standout performers, each scoring fifties.
Sudharsan's 64-run innings propelled him to the top of the IPL 2026 run-scoring leaderboard, making him the current Orange Cap holder with 638 runs in 14 matches this season. Gill follows closely with 616 runs in 13 innings.
Rashid praised both Gill and Sudharsan for their consistency and understanding of the game, noting that they quickly adapt to conditions, trust their natural playing style, and remain calm regardless of the target they face.
“Shubman is improving every day. He adapts to conditions and reads the game swiftly, which is why both he and Sai take their time and know their game well. They don’t alter their approach, whether chasing 200 or 150,” Rashid remarked.
