Rashid Khan Joins Elite Spinners Club

During the IPL 2026 final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rashid Khan of Gujarat Titans (GT) made history by becoming one of only two spinners to take 20 or more wickets in a single season on four occasions. He shares this remarkable achievement with Yuzvendra Chahal, marking Rashid as the first overseas spinner to reach this milestone. In the final match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 31, Rashid showcased his exceptional skills by taking two crucial wickets, dismissing RCB's captain Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya in the same over. He concluded his four-over spell with impressive figures of 2/25, contributing significantly to GT's bowling effort, although it ultimately fell short.

RCB's Dominance Over GT

RCB Dominate GT

Rashid's performance provided a glimmer of hope for GT in what turned out to be a one-sided match. RCB managed to restrict GT to a total of 155 runs for 8 wickets, setting a modest target of 156 runs to secure their second consecutive IPL title. This victory would also mark RCB as the fourth team to win the prestigious IPL title multiple times. However, the GT bowlers struggled to challenge RCB effectively, allowing them to chase down the target with ease. Notably, Gujarat Titans became the first team in IPL history to go 40 balls without hitting a boundary in a final, as RCB employed various bowling strategies to stifle their scoring. Nishant Sindhu finally broke the boundary drought with a hit on the fifth ball of the sixth over, but the following 40 balls saw GT score only 34 runs, slipping from 45/2 after six overs to 79/4 after 12.3 overs.
