Rajesh Ramesh Prepares for Commonwealth Games
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 27: Rajesh Ramesh, one of India's top quarter-milers, is gearing up for his debut at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He stands out as one of the nation's most seasoned relay athletes, bolstered by numerous impressive performances on both continental and global stages.
At 27 years old, Rajesh has been instrumental in India's resurgence in the 4x400m relay, contributing significantly to the country's notable achievements in recent years. As he approaches his first Commonwealth Games, he aims to add another remarkable chapter to his already illustrious international career.
The sprinter from Tamil Nadu has consistently excelled on major platforms. He was part of the Indian men's 4x400m relay team that clinched gold and the mixed relay team that secured silver at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. He followed these successes with a gold medal in the mixed relay and a silver in the men's relay at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships. Additionally, Rajesh was part of the Indian squad that set a historic Asian record of 2:59:05 in the men's 4x400m relay during the 2023 World Athletics Championships. With a personal best of 45.26 seconds in the individual 400m, he remains one of India's fastest quarter-milers.
As he prepares to represent India at his first Commonwealth Games, Rajesh emphasizes his commitment to the relay team's success and delivering his best performance.
“Competing for India at the Commonwealth Games is a dream I've pursued for many years. Each chance to don the Indian jersey is significant, and making my debut at the Commonwealth Games adds even more value to it. My aim is to perform at my best, maintain composure under pressure, and contribute to the team's success. We have trained diligently, and I am eager to face some of the world's top athletes while making India proud,” Rajesh stated.
He attributes much of his preparation to the support he receives, particularly from the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS), which has been crucial in helping him compete at elite levels consistently.
“The Inspire Institute of Sport has played a vital role in my journey. From coaching and sports science to recovery, nutrition, and strength training, everything I need to excel is provided. Having such a robust support system allows me to concentrate fully on my development as an athlete, and I am thankful to everyone who has been part of my journey,” he remarked.
Having significantly contributed to India's relay success in recent years, Rajesh believes that the team's progress is founded on trust, consistency, and the conviction that Indian athletes can compete with the best globally.
“Indian athletics has made remarkable strides, especially in relay events. We have demonstrated that we can compete with the world's top teams, a testament to years of hard work and training. Every major championship inspires us to elevate our standards and motivate the next generation of athletes,” he added.
Reflecting on his preparations, Rajesh highlights that consistency has been his primary focus leading up to the Games.
“Preparation hinges on consistency; every training session, recovery period, and minor improvement matters. I am confident in my preparation and ready to give my all for the team. Representing India is my greatest motivation, and I hope we can make the nation proud,” he expressed.
Having already played a pivotal role in some of India's most significant relay achievements, Rajesh now has another chance to shine on the international stage. The Commonwealth Games serve as an ideal platform for him to further establish himself as one of India's leading quarter-milers while contributing to the country's growing success in relay events.
