Rajasthan United FC's Title Hopes on the Line

In Ludhiana, Punjab, Rajasthan United FC is set to confront Dempo SC in a pivotal match of the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 championship phase at the Namdhari Football Stadium this Friday.

Both teams have commenced their championship phase journeys, but with contrasting results. Rajasthan United experienced a close 1-2 loss to Sreenidi Deccan FC, while Dempo managed a goalless draw against Shillong Lajong FC, as reported.

The stakes are particularly high for Rajasthan, currently positioned fourth with 18 points. They are still in contention for the top spots, but their margin for error is minimal. A victory could propel them to second place, intensifying the pressure on leaders Diamond Harbour.

On the other hand, Dempo finds itself at the bottom of the Championship Phase standings with just 10 points, effectively out of the title race. Nevertheless, they are eager to finish the season on a high note, with a win potentially elevating them to fifth place.

Historically, Rajasthan has the upper hand, remaining unbeaten in their last three encounters with Dempo, securing two wins and one draw, while boasting a significant 7-2 goal advantage. Their most recent clash on April 19 at PJN Stadium ended in a 2-1 comeback victory for Rajasthan, overcoming an initial goal from Marcus Joseph with strikes from Gerard Artigas and Thomyo Shimray.

Rajasthan is under pressure to respond effectively, with their strategy likely focusing on efficient transitions, a point emphasized by assistant coach Vikas Rawat leading up to the match.

“This game will hinge on our ability to transition well, whether in attack or defense,” Rawat stated.

This approach is crucial against a Dempo team that has conceded the second-highest number of goals (14) in the Championship Phase. For Rajasthan, Artigas remains a key player in the attacking third, expressing the team's resolve to bounce back from their recent defeat.

“After a tough week following our last loss, the team is focused and ready to move forward,” Artigas remarked.

Despite their struggles, Dempo has shown enough attacking potential to remain a threat. Head coach Samir Naik acknowledged the challenges but affirmed his team's commitment to push for points.

“It’s tough to aim for the top four now, given the eight-point gap, but we are working hard to close it,” Naik said.

Marcus Joseph, the league's top scorer with seven goals, remains Dempo's primary offensive threat, having scored in their previous meeting. He will be supported by Sebastian Gutierrez, who adds depth to their attack. Gutierrez shared the team's positive mindset heading into the match.

“The atmosphere is good. Everyone is ready for the next match, and we all want to secure a strong finish in the standings,” he noted.

For Rajasthan, the goal is to stay competitive, while Dempo aims to regain momentum and finish the season strongly. Matches like this are crucial as the Championship Phase unfolds, distinguishing the contenders from the rest.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 18:30 IST and will be available live on DD Sports and Sony Sports Network, with streaming options on Waves App and Sony LIV.
